frequently asked questions.

Do your saunas meet Australian safety standards?

Yes, all our saunas at Steam Saunas Australia meet Australian safety standards. We have SAA certification for all our products, ensuring they comply with the highest safety and quality requirements in Australia. This certification guarantees that our saunas are safe, reliable, and built to last. This can often be overlooked in purchasing decisions, so be sure to check that the product type you are ordering has this certification.

I need help with deciding which sauna to purchase, can I speak with someone?

What’s the difference between a traditional steam sauna & an infrared sauna?

Traditional steam saunas and infrared saunas offer different experiences primarily due to their heating methods. Traditional steam saunas heat the air within the sauna room using a heater that warms up rocks, onto which water can be poured to increase humidity. This creates a high-temperature environment that reaches 90°C. The high heat mimics moderate exercise and is highly associated with longevity. In contrast, infrared saunas use infrared heaters to emit infrared light, which is absorbed directly by the skin. This means they operate at lower temperatures, usually between 45°C to 65°C (113°F to 149°F). While some advocate for the benefits of infrared saunas, we at Steam Saunas Australia focus on traditional steam saunas, which leverage heat levels that are well-studied for their health benefits, including improved circulation and detoxification.

Do I need an electrician to install my sauna?

Yes, we recommend that all our sauna installations are carried out by a qualified electrician to ensure safety and compliance with Australian electrical standards. At Steam Saunas Australia, we employ certified electricians who specialise in sauna installation. However the electrical installation can be done by any qualified electrician.

How hot can my sauna get?

Our traditional steam saunas are designed to reach temperatures of up to 90°C. This high temperature range is key to achieving the therapeutic benefits associated with traditional sauna use, such as improved circulation, muscle relaxation, and an enhanced detoxification process. Each sauna model we offer has adjustable temperature settings, allowing you to find a comfortable heat level for your sauna experience.

How does sauna use at high temperatures affect human growth hormone levels?

Regular use of high-temperature saunas has been shown to significantly increase the levels of human growth hormone (HGH) in the body. HGH plays a crucial role in growth, body composition, cell repair, and metabolism. Studies have found that two 20-minute sauna sessions at 80°C separated by a 30-minute cooling period can increase HGH levels two-fold. Longer and more frequent sessions can increase these levels even further, promoting muscle growth, enhanced recovery from exercise, and overall well-being.

What are heat shock proteins and how does sauna use affect them?

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are a group of proteins that are produced by cells in response to stressful conditions, such as exposure to high temperatures. These proteins play a vital role in helping the body cope with stress and can repair misfolded proteins, protecting cells from damage. Sauna use at high temperatures induces the production of these proteins, which can provide various health benefits, including improved cellular repair, increased longevity, and enhanced immune function.

How does sauna use at high temperatures affect heart rate?

Using a sauna can have a dramatic effect on the cardiovascular system. When you use a sauna, especially at high temperatures like those found in traditional steam saunas, the heat acts to widen blood vessels, a process known as vasodilation. This increase in blood vessel diameter allows for increased blood flow and can cause the heart rate to rise to levels often seen during moderate-intensity exercise. Regular sauna use has been associated with reduced risks of heart-related diseases, lower blood pressure, and improved heart function.
